How I Get Out of a Reading Slump

It happens to all of us readers at some point. You've got a thousand books on your tbr, and you want nothing more than to curl up with a nice read by the fireplace. But you just. can't. do. it.
Don't fret! You have not lost your ability to read (at least we hope not). You're just in a reading slump, and we can help with that! Check out our list of ideas for how to get back into your lovely books once more!

1. Ignore my guilty feelings about my ever-growing TBR. Pick up something that genuinely makes me feel excited! Even if I've already read it! (see point 4).
2. Picking up something shorter and less intimidating. Perhaps a graphic novel! I just read Heartstopper by Alice Oseman and its a super cute quick read!
3. Reading some contemporary fiction. My favorite genres are generally fantasy books, but those can take a lot of work; Understanding the world, understanding different character species, etc. Something in the contemporary world doesn’t exhaust your brain like that, and can be easier to pick up!
4. Try rereading a favorite - I usually skim or skip to my favorite parts. Sometimes I go through an annotate my favorite spots (if you're not into writing on your books you can use post-its or Goodreads!)

5. Reading young adult, vs. new adult or adult or nonfiction. Young adult books tend to get right to the action and pick up a lot quicker.
6. I keep trying! I started a lot of books that weren’t getting my attention. And eventually found one that did!
7. Looking at fanart gives me the motivation to start a new series or book. (that’s how I really got into the SJM books, and also the cruel prince series!)
